Hello Baby G. + What a Year <3

by | Jun 30, 2023

Soooo, today marks the exact day last year when I realized that my first pregnancy was not going to be an easy one. All the pretty and glamorous “fun preggy/mommy things to do” Youtube videos were NOT in the cards for me…

The second trimester was kicking my ass, stealing all my energy, and making me cry day in and day out because I didn’t want to accept that things were changing.

“I can STILL do all the things, pull crazy all-nighters, and work hard on the things I love!” <–I said these words to myself every day, and sometimes it worked…

Most times, it didn’t.

I was so effin delusional that when I was rushed to the E.R. in November, I told the nurse, “I’m going to make these final weeks in the third trimester my bitch. I’m going to work so damn hard. Watch!” Looking back, I can’t figure out if her saying “Sure, Hon,” while pressing my chest was her subtle way of saying, “I want to believe you,” or “That’s totally not happening.”

Alas, after complications, Baby G came into the world during late January of this year, and two weeks later, I was like, “Okay. I’m a new mom and that’s awesome. Back to work!”

I launched the preplanned schedule to kick off my most ambitious “release season” to date, and…

It didn’t work out.

Somewhere between Baby G’s crying, “Mr. G” and I being way too unprepared for what “newborn” and “new parents” really mean, my appointments with a spine/brain doctor** (nothing went right 🙁 ), and refusing to accept that life was different now, I fell apart.

Sprinkle in some lovely postpartum depression (which OMG…I wouldn’t wish this crap on my worst enemy or worst book villain) and well…

I had to finally be honest with myself.

Things have changed.

As fun and awesome as the things I planned were, they were also completely unrealistic.

So, at the advice of numerous doctors, I worked on establishing a new way to work and live and a much better way to be there for Baby G.

Andddd now that the ugly grey skies of PPD are long gone, and I only have a few doctors appointments left, I’m picking up where I left off in a couple weeks (more realistic this time), and I’ll send out a newsletter as well.

F.L.Y. + Thank you for all your kind words and messages while I handled things.
They’ve made the past months a lot brighter.

Whit

P.S. Baby G is below! (Just in case the main picture didn’t show up. It’s a girl! 🙂 )

P.P.S. I need to write a story about a hot neurosurgeon** one of these days because OMG… <3

P.P.P.S. (Is this a thing?) Thanks to Nicole, the F.L.Y. Store never closed while I was “away” sooo if you want a signed copy on your shelf they’re also available to order. She’s amazing and ships your books fast <3
