Sooo last month, I turned 36 years old. (I still can’t believe it!)
In years past, I would spend an entire month celebrating my birthday, but after one week into October, I hadn’t done a single thing. I hadn’t even mentioned it.
My friends and family kept asking, “Hey Whit! What are you doing to bring in the big 3-6?” “Are you throwing an over-the-top party this year?” and “Um…You know it’s October, right? Are you planning something?”
*shrug* “I don’t know,” I’d say.
“Tell me what you want to do, so I can help you celebrate,” Mister G offered. “It’s getting pretty close…”
*shrug* “Okay, will do.*
By the time the big day’s eve neared, I’d made ZERO plans, and the only thing I wanted to do was pick up my free birthday coffee from the cafe and take a long afternoon nap.
I am SO HAPPY my family didn’t let that happen.
Hours before midnight, my mom insisted we chat over hot coffee and reflect on the past year together. Then she revealed the cards and balloons she’d helped Baby G make for me.
Mr. G. surprised me with new gardening supplies, and then my family treated me to brunch at a new place in Memphis called Waldo’s Chicken & Beer. I was super skeptical, but OMG it was GOODDD! And then my aunt gave me my favorite cake of all time: Italian Creme!
It was super simple, and this was among my favorite birthdays so far!
F.L.Y.
Whit
